Technology is an opportunity — but only for those who understand it
A long-form interview on the road from an electrical engineering degree in Podgorica to European tech, and on why leaving Montenegro only makes sense if you plan to come back.
The conversation traces a career that started with childhood curiosity about how machines work and continued through the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Podgorica — undergraduate, specialist and master's — into telecommunications, aviation, software and health tech. Telenor Montenegro, Air Serbia, DevTech, HolidayCheck in Munich protecting the data of millions of travellers, and then Kaia Health, where the responsibility became medical data across two continents.
The message to young people is deliberately blunt: leave, but leave in order to come back. Experience earned in demanding international environments is exactly what Montenegro lacks, and it becomes valuable at home only if someone brings it home. That is the logic behind the UN1QUELY academy — more than two hundred people brought into the profession, free of charge — and behind returning to Montenegro to build rather than commute to it.
The building side of the story covers Secfix, a compliance-automation platform for ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIS2, DORA, GDPR and the AI Act, which raised a Series A of over 10 million EUR led by Alstin Capital and serves customers in more than fifteen countries; and Skenify, founded with CTO Milenko Jevremović out of the Digital Den hub in Montenegro, named Startup of the Month by Bloomberg Adria, with pilot customers, a pre-seed round and a Fast Track path towards the EIC Accelerator. The wider argument is macroeconomic: the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs 2025 projects 170 million new roles and a net gain of 78 million by 2030, McKinsey puts the annual value of generative AI at 2.6–4.4 trillion USD, and Montenegro — 5G covering most of the population, a regional leader in OECD digital-skills measures — has the infrastructure. What it needs is people who understand what to do with it.
